What ails the PTI

Published February 25, 2012

IT was believed that the PTI might be a viable third force, a catalyst for change in the country’s politics and young people like Marvi Memon, Fawad Chohdry, Shekh Waqas Akram and Saad Rafiq would make a difference. However, as time passes, Imran Khan is proving it otherwise. Here are some observations:

So far he has demonstrated that he is going to throw others ‘wickets’ and how he will be doing the solo flight in politics.

Now, even some of his party’s senior members are somewhat reluctant in supporting and endorsing Mr Khan’s boastful statements in the media.

Imran Khan is — with time — proving that he is not a statesman or even a politician because politics is a game.

PTI spokespersons are predominantly arrogant, overconfident and in some instances loose cannons. They make big promises without telling how they are going to achieve them.

Musharraf, with a team of clean politicians and even with idealists like Javed Jabbar, was unable to achieve even his own seven-point agenda. How can Imran Khan fix every ill of the country when he will not even have two-thirds majority?

Imran Khan and his team (if there is any) must understand that people are well aware of the incompetence of the current government and they do not need the PTI to keep telling them about it. People like to know what the PTI would do that would make a difference. So far it is a negative rhetoric towards everyone and relying on empty slogans.

Rule by law

‘The rule of law’ is being weaponised, taking on whatever meaning that fits the political objectives of those invoking it.
