NAWABSHAH: PML-N chief Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has reiterated his stand that his party will not attend all parties conference on Balochistan convened by the prime minister unless murderers of Nawab Akbar Bugti have been brought to book and missing people have been traced.
Addressing a public meeting here on Sunday, he levelled serious allegations of corruption against people in the government and said that about Rs400 billion was being embezzled each year.
He said that while flying over various areas in the province he had seen rainwater still standing in rain- and flood-affected regions and farmers who used to give Zakat in the past had now become beggars because of the government’s failure to help them overcome the hardship caused by floods.
He said the law and order situation had deteriorated to an extent that no-one could go to any village without adequate security, adding that the interior of Sindh was virtually under control of dacoits, especially at night. Mr Sharif said had the government carried out its constitutional duties, the slogan of ‘Go Zardari Go’ would not have been raised in Nawabshah district.
He said he visited Sindh after the heavy rains and Punjab was the first province to come to the aid of their Sindhi brethren.
He said that in Punjab computer labs had been set up in every government school and poor children were receiving quality education in Danish schools and laptop computers. He said he wanted to see similar revolutionary steps to be taken throughout the country.
He called upon the rulers to open their eyes and “take care of the children of Sindh”. He said state organisations like PIA and Railways had been destroyed, Balochistan was burning and facing a separatist movement but the government appeared to be ignorant of impending dangers.
He condemned the burning of the van of a TV channel which was coming to cover his meeting and said that crops of PML-N leader Dr Bahadur Dahri had been set ablaze in the past because he had organised public meetings. He expressed the hope that after next elections, the PML-N would form the government in Sindh and pledged to serve the country wholeheartedly if he became the prime minister. He said women like Waheeda Shah were tarnishing the image of the country and she should have been taken to court. But when the authorities failed to take any action against her the Supreme Court had to take notice of her slapping of the polling staff. He said had the woman been a PML-N nominee the party would have made her accountable for her behaviour.
