LAHORE, March 5: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was elected unopposed provincial president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz here on Monday.

Former National Assembly deputy speaker Chaudhry Jafar Iqbal was elected unopposed vice president, while a meeting of the Punjab PML-N general council authorised Shahbaz Sharif through a resolution to make nominations for the slots of secretary general, information secretary and others.

The Nawaz League general council also condemned the Kohistan killings, showed solidarity with the families of missing persons, expressed concern over the situation in Balochistan and demanded immediate arrest of the killers of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

It also held “ineptness” and “corruption” of the incumbent federal government that led to gas and power crises in the country and pledged to expedite the struggle to get rid of the government.

The participants also raised ‘Go Zardari Go’ slogans.
