ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Waheeda Shah and others on Wednesday and said it would announce the verdict tomorrow.
Mushtaq Talpur who was also a candidate for a provincial assembly seat (PS-53) had filed an application before the ECP against Ms Shah.
He had leveled 19 allegations against her, pointing out 11 polling stations where violence and rigging took place during recently held by-polls.
He had requested the commission to declare by-election in the constituency for Sindh Assembly seat PS-53 as null and void.
The commission had summoned the two candidates for hearing the allegations.
The Pakistan People's Party candidate escaped the hearing today. However, her counsel Mustafa Safvi presented his arguments before Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza, who was hearing the case.
Safvi told the commission that Ms Shah had sought forgiveness, adding that the allegations against her were based on misunderstanding, therefore she should be pardoned.
He said since a similar case against her was also being heard in Supreme Court, therefore she could not able to appear before the commission.
On Monday, Ms Shah had submitted before the Returning Officer that the incident that took place in a polling station was unintentional.
In her statement, she said that the polling officer concerned had forgiven her as the incident was the outcome of some misunderstanding.
She also produced some documentary evidence in the case.
