SHIKARPUR, March 7: Two women, who were saved by police from being killed under the orders of a jirga on Tuesday, were sent to Darul Aman by court on Wednesday.

Police produced Khursheed Shar and Ajeeban Shar in the court of additional session and family judge Sadaf Khokhar in Lakhi Ghulam Shah amid extraordinary security arrangements.

In their statement, both the women sought protection as they feared that they would be killed by the people of their community. Police supported their stance and informed the court that the handing over the women to their family may endanger their lives.

The court directed the police to take the women to Darul Aman in Sukkur and they were taken there amid police security Khursheed and Ajeeban were kidnapped on Sunday by Jatoi tribesmen, who have enmity with their relatives, and returned home after remaining in the captivity for two days.

People of their community held a jirga which decided to kill both the women under the tag of karo-kari as they believed that they had been raped while in captivity.

However, police raided Dur Mohammad Shar village and recovered the women after the news about the jirga was flashed by TV channels,.

No jirga organiser has been arrested yet though a case has been registered against more than four people.
