LAHORE, March 25: Pakistan People’s Party leader Fauzia Wahahb has said the Muslim League-Nawaz’s Punjab government cannot absolve itself of energy crisis as after constitution of the National Finance Commission Award it is also the responsibility of the provinces to produce electricity.

She was talking to reporters at the residence of Jammat-i-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch here on Sunday, flanked by Navid Chaudhry and Haider Zaman Qureshi. She visited the JI leader to condole the death of his mother.

Ms Wahab said instead of spending the money Punjab got under the NFC Award on distributing free laptops, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should divert the amount to electricity production so that people of the province could get some relief.

“The provinces are independent in producing electricity. Will the Punjab government tell the people how much electricity it has produced since it got the NFC share,” she asked.

Meanwhile, the PPP’s women wing has demanded strict implementation of legislation against acid throwing incidents to prevent such occurrences in future.

In a meeting presided over by PP-143 president Talat Bangash here on Sunday the women activists expressed grief over the tragic death of acid victim Fakhra who committed suicide in Rome, Italy, 12 years after she was subjected to acid attack.

The participants held the view that mere rhetoric was not enough as concrete measures were needed to be taken against the elements responsible for such heinous crimes against women.

The meeting was also attended by Aroosa Usman, Nasrin Gilani and Tahira Mumtaz.
