Man killed in police firing

TAXILA, March 28: A man was killed in Gheershan village on Tuesday.

Sources said a seven-member police party headed by SI Izzat Khan raided a suspected narcotics den. As the party faced resistance, a policeman opened fire injuring a man identified as Tanveer Khan, 34. At this, the villagers got infuriated and overpowered the raiding team and thrashed constable Mohammad Tahir.

Tanveer was rushed to THQ hospital from where he was referred to POF hospital Wah Cantt. Later, he was taken to Pims where he died.

On the complaint of Tauqeer Khan, brother of the deceased, police registered a murder case against the police officials in the raiding party. An FIR was also registered against the deceased, his brother and six other villagers for thrashing policemen and selling narcotics.— Correspondent
