ISLAMABAD: The judicial commission probing the memo scandal gave former Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani a last chance to appear before them summoning him on April 12.
During the hearing, the correspondence between the foreign office in Pakistan and the Pakistan’s embassy in United States was scrutinised.
The Foreign Office informed the commission that Haqqani unofficially visited London last year in May, without notifying the embassy there, when he was heading Pakistan's diplomatic mission in Washington.
The commission ordered Haqqani to appear before them with his Blackberry sets and other documents on April 12.
The commission proposed four options to bring Haqqani back to Pakistan.
The options proposed were: issuance of arrest warrants, registration of a criminal case, seizing Haqqani’s assets and initiating contempt of court proceedings.
On April 5, the memo commission had directed former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani to give his consent to Black Berry Company, Research in Motion (RIM), regarding waiver of his privacy rights for retrieving data of his Black Berry Messages (BBM) and produce a copy of the letter before the commission on Friday.
The Commission had also rejected Haqqani's application for adjournment of commission hearing on the basis of his health and till the decision of another application pending in the Supreme Court.
The former ambassador had filed an application in the SC seeking to record his statement abroad via video link as it was done for Mansoor Ijaz.

It is shameful and a disgrace that a former ambassador and well know intellectual does not feel safe to
present himself in front of the Memo Commission. These wicked and cruel people can justify any of their action by such flimsy logic.
Wake up my Pakistani brothers and sisters get them out by all means and any means before it is too late, our slogan must be "we will be honest without the fear of hell or heaven" no more no less.

why bother ! this fellow has already proven himself to be a traitor. he lost his black berries. he has forgotten his pin codes. he doesnt remember the black berry conversations. he flew to london without informing any one and met the british officials there. he has changed parties like u change ur pajamas. he owes no loyalty to anyone but to himself. he was a denizen of a shanty town and look where he is today. i think we should consider him to be another mir jafar and move on. just watch out for his cronies in london and pakistan.

You have to admire Zardari.
He has his PM willing and eager to go to prision for him in order to protect him from money laundering.
Now he has his X Ambassador Hussien Haqqanni also willing to get criminal record to protect Zardari from memogate.
Zardari should be given the keys of all of Pakistan and made KIng of Pakistan.

I was sure from the beginning about the haqqani he was lying. He proved it by not returning to appear before the commission cause he knows he knows he will be charged and arrested. The supreme court should initiate to prosecute him without taking too long. we want to see some action soon the better otherwise the people will complete to do their job.

I agree with the other 2 comments Haqqani must be arrested and court must not allow him to delay proceedings. Continuing with this game, SC should also believe the other claims MI has made so authoritatively about the known forces and they should also be censured for planning a coup and requesting Arab nations for approval and for the allowing the US forces to fly in to deal with their guest. While Haqqani who dictated an unsigned letter over the phone, which no one believed in, no one acted on and no one knew about, should be punished for using his blackberry not one but 2.

Lock up Hussien Haqqanni lawyer for helping and abetting him to escape Pakistan by giving false declarations.
This will then send the right message to the other Pakistani lawyers like Aitzaz so not to flaunt with the law.

I think these claims of medical illness should be investigated by involving doctors and if found bogus ( which most likely they are) further cases can registered and also against doctors who are issuing these bogus certificates ( cause it's a big crime here in west).

Get Haqqani and Zaradri in the court of law. Playing against the security of Pakistan is not tolerable. The court should not allow Haqqani to be a escape goat. Rather, they must fully investigate the perosn who dictated the memo, who wrote the memo, and the perosn who had delivered it to the US authorities.

Why did Supreme Court permit him to fly abroad before the completion of memo commission proceedings. Supreme Court does not appear to be sincere so this matter is also a history like many others. Who has to implement these four optiions; the Govt of Pakistan. The PM did not write to Swiss authorties against the President so it is naiive to think that they would take any action against Haqqani.

The Supreme Court should get Asma Jehangir, the culprit, who had assured the court on behalf of her client that HH will return to his homeland on four days notice from the Supreme Court. Her license to practice should also be suspended. No one is above law. Readers please comment honestly

The memo commission shall stay impartial and treat Haqqani and Mansoor Ijaz equally. They should record his statment via video link. They seem too pre-occupied against Haqqani.

Because Mansoor Ijaz is a US citizen and we can't force him to come to Pakistan, if he is mailing Pakistan and its Administration than it is the duty of every Pakistani official to protect the dignity and integrity of his country no matter what the price. Why was the memo treasonous? I would have thought getting rid of the military adventurers is in the interests of Pakistan as a nation that has suffered from military misrule and financial interests which have been holding Pakistan back.
