LAHORE, April 8: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the suggestions of experts and stakeholders will be given importance at the national energy conference being held here on Monday (today).

The prime minister told journalists on Sunday that his government wanted to resolve the energy crisis as early as possible. He said the government would consider the suggestions and incorporate them in the action plan.

Meanwhile, the chief ministers of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan arrived here on Sunday to participate in the conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The prime minister will preside over it.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who will represent the PML-Q, will present Chaudhry Shujaat Husain’s formula for ending electricity loadshedding. According to Shujaat, if the provinces allow the federation to deduct Rs50 billion a month out of their share of the NFC Award for three months, 90 per cent of the power loadshedding will end, says PML-Q Senator Kamil Ali Agha.

According to an official statement, Prime Minister Gilani wants a policy of reconciliation and resolution of the energy turmoil through concerted efforts.

During a meeting in the past week, the prime minister spoke of the energy-related responsibilities of the provinces after the 18th Amendment. The provinces, he stressed, should adopt the policy of energy conservation and generation.

As part of the federal government’s energy conservation plan, he said he had ordered that air-conditioners of the Prime Minister House and Prime Minister’s Secretariat could not be switched on before 11am.

The prime minister said politicians were able to find solution to all problems through reconciliation and hoped that the energy conference would help find ways to resolve the crisis plaguing the country.
