MUMBAI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf said on Monday that they were keeping options open as far as supporting Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Mustafa Kamal’s nomination for the ICC’s vice president post was concerned.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from his Lahore residence, Zaka said: “If the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) backs out from its commitment of sending their team to Pakistan, the relations between the two boards will become sour.”
“The two boards entered into the written agreements and we supported Mustafa Kamal’s candidature for the ICC post. But if they back out now, it will be a very tough situation for us.”
It is difficult to say whether the PCB has the right to withdraw their support for the BCB chairman, but the days ahead for Kamal are not going to be rosy.
It may be recalled here that Cricket Australia (CA) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) had to withdraw John Howard’s joint nomination once it was opposed by the fellow board members two years ago.
