LARKANA, April 9: The leadership of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz suspects that its chairman, Basheer Khan Qureshi, was “eliminated through a conspiracy” and has called for a chemical examination of samples of viscera taken from his body in a private laboratory.

“The establishment decided to eliminate Basheer Qureshi after the JSQM’s massive freedom march in Karachi on March 23. Before that Basheer Qureshi had survived more than one murder attempt,” said JSQM’s acting chairman, Dr Niaz Kalani, and general secretary Asif Baladi in Ratodero on Monday.

Basheer Qureshi died of a heart attack between the night of Friday and Saturday after having dinner at the residence of a local JSQM leader in the Tharu Shah area.

Dr Niaz Kalani alleged that the administration was reluctant to hand over the samples of viscera taken from the body of Basheer Qureshi for conducting chemical examination in a private laboratory.

“Since we don’t have resources to conduct a chemical examination, we request the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia and China to assist us in finding the truth,” Dr Kalani said.

SOYEM: A large number of people from different walks of life, including political leaders, attended the Soyem of Basheer Khan Qureshi in Ratodero on Monday.

Prominent among them were Nisar Khuhro, Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo and Malik Baloch of the National Party, Ismail Rahu of the PML-N, Ghous Bakhsh Mahar of the MPL-Q, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand chief Dr Qadir Magsi, Jeay Sindh Tehrik leader Dr Safdar Sarki and Ashfaq Mangi of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Party activists and members of civil society laid floral wreaths and offered Fateha at the grave of Basheer Khan Qureshi.

MEDICAL REPORT: The samples of viscera of Basheer Qureshi taken during the autopsy on April 7 by a team of doctors were sent to Karachi for chemical examination on Monday.

The Medical Superintendent of Chandka Medical College Hospital, Dr Ashfaq Memon, said police surgeon Dr Safiullah Abbasi, amidst heavy police security, had transported the samples to Karachi.

Confirming the demand by relatives of the deceased for giving samples to them for private examination, he said they were ready to give them as this was a high-profile case.

The JSQM chief’s relatives were pressing authorities to get the chemical examination conducted at the Aga Khan laboratory, he added.

Dr Safiullah Abbasi, the police surgeon, has informed the Sindh Health Secretary that Maqsood Qureshi, brother of Basheer Qureshi, had appealed for handing over to him the viscera taken from the body so that he could get it examined on his own. The surgeon sought the secretary’s permission or otherwise “at the earliest”.

According to the Medical Superintendent, the secretary had given verbal permission for giving the samples to Basheer Qureshi’s heirs.

After receiving the permission, the police surgeon left for Karachi to collect the samples. Imdad Abbasi, a leader of the JSQM, accompanied Dr Abbasi.

MOURNING: Sukkur, Khairpur and Badin remained shut on Monday to mourn the death of Basheer Qureshi.

In Mirpurkhas, hundreds of people attended his Soyem at Chandni Chowk.
