One of the defining features of the Mega Cirus organised by Leisure Club on its 15th anniversary at the Sozo Water Park in Lahore was that it was far removed from the homogenous, toffee-nosed gathering that one gets to see at routine ramps and fashion launches.

Circus segments incorporating the best of Pakistani talent supported and accentuated a vibrant family collection that was put on display. The urban Spring/Summer 2012 collection was bold, vivid and unrestrained and was based on three new lines: Circus Spring, Angry Bird and Core Colour Blocking. Opening with the children’s line, the show presented a pulsating collection of children’s casual wear in cotton and knitwear. T-shirts, shorts, skirts, rompers, jump suits, frocks, leggings and more were paraded by a group of light-footed, frolicking children.

The following displays showcased an eye-catching men’s and women’s line that put forward an array of practical and versatile cotton wear. Denims dominated the stage as male and female models walked in donning chic tops and jeans in striking hues. Highlighting their trot was a gold dust act where male performers painted in bronzy gold posed as statues.

Adding zest to the casual line was an entourage of around 162 performers and acrobats led by ring master, Shaan Lashari. The acrobats scaled the flying trapeze, followed by adept flame throwers, dexterous jugglers, brisk dancers, sly magicians, precise knife throwers, awe-inspiring balancing acts, marksmanship, roller juggling with other gymnastic and spinning acts. The Pakistan Gymnastic team also put up short, repeated performances.

A performance by Quadrum on the drums and dhol and the V-Boys led by choreographer Veer also put up performances that were highly applauded.

“We wanted this celebration to match the size of our achievements over the last decade and a half, while providing a performance powerhouse to our entertainment-deprived county and to promote the great Pakistani talent, which does not get such opportunities to perform,” said brand manager Omar Zaman while explaining the concept behind the show to Images on Sunday.

Also present on the occasion were Juggun Kazim, Bilal Lashari, fashion designers Kamiar Rokni, Sara Shahid and musician Mahmood Rehman among others.
