BARCELONA: Italy's Sara Errani swept the Barcelona Open singles and doubles titles on Sunday and dedicated victory to compatriot Piermario Morosini, the footballer who died on Saturday after collapsing in a match.

Errani, the seventh seed, took the singles title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Slovakian third seed Dominika Cibulkova.

She then teamed up with Roberta Vinci to win the doubles, routing Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone 6-0, 6-2 in an all-Italian final.

“This tournament is for Piermario Morosini,” said an emotional Errani.

“It has been very hard. The images have impacted me a lot. It's amazing that these things can happen. It really makes you think. It brings you back to reality and makes you realise many of the things we compain about in life are just pure nonsense.

“You have to enjoy every minute of life.”Morosini died from a suspected heart attack on Saturday after collapsing on the pitch during his side Livorno's match against Pescara in the Italian second division. He was just 25.
