Girl commits suicide

ISLAMABAD, April 18: A girl committed suicide by consuming a poisonous insecticide in Prime Minister’s Colony after being scolded by her mother, police said on Wednesday. Nayab Bibi, a student of BA, was taken to hospital, but could not survive.

The police said the girl was scolded by her mother for quarrelling with her younger sister. This annoyed her and she took the extreme step. — Staff Reporter

Man killed

ATTOCK, April 18: A man was killed by two armed bike riders near Shah Faisal Colony in the limits of City police station on Tuesday evening.

Police said 70-year-old Syed Mohammad Shah, a resident of Barotha village, was seriously injured by two motorbike riders. On information, Rescue 1122 shifted him to the DHQ hospital but he could not survive.

The police said the incident appeared to be the result of an old enmity as the deceased had a land dispute with some village fellows. — Correspondent

Debate competition

ISLAMABAD, April 18: In order to develop art of public speaking, promote confidence and sense of responsibility among students, a debate competition was organised at National University of Modern Languages (Numl) on Wednesday.

A total of 24 students from Mass Communication Department participated in the bilingual debate competition.

In English category Sarmad Basheer, Irum Shehzadi and Kali Zahra secured first, second and third positions, respectively. In Urdu category, Haseebur Rehman, Ammara Shahjahan and Saqib Gohar bagged first, second and third positions respectively.— A Reporter

Ten outlaws held

ISLAMABAD, April 18: The capital police on Wednesday arrested five outlaws for their alleged involvement in different crimes and seized vehicles, liquor and narcotics from their possession.

A spokesman for the police said the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested a bootlegger at Iqbal Town and recovered 40 bottles of wine from him.

Likewise, the police also arrested an alleged car lifter from Tarlai and recovered a stolen Honda Civic from him. Similarly, Margalla police, on suspicion, intercepted a Toyota Corolla and found that its engine and chassis numbers were tampered with. The police arrested its driver.

Tarnol police intercepted a woman on suspicion at Jhangi Syedan and during search recovered hashish weighing 3.6gms from her.

Bhara Kahu police arrested a person after recovering a 12-bore gun from him while Industrial Area police nabbed a man for his alleged involvement in a theft incident.

Separate cases were registered against the arrested persons. — Staff Reporter

Gang busted

ISLAMABAD, April 18: A gang of human traffickers was busted during a raid conducted by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday, sources told Dawn.

The five members of the gang were nabbed from I-9 Markaz and Peshawar Mor. The British, Canadian and Schengen visas were also recovered from them.

An FIA official said human traffickers were operating under the cover of a travel agent. They arranged visas of different western and European countries. A case was registered and investigation is in progress. —Staff Reporter
