LAHORE, April 19: A swift gang of 10 robbers on Thursday looted Rs1.1 million from a bank branch in Shadbagh police limits, injured two security guards on duty, and fled the scene finishing their job in three minutes.

Police said the robbers entered Habib Bank Limited Gol Bagh branch at 4:26pm, overpowered four armed security guards, looted cash from the cash counter and fled within three minutes.

A police official said an armed guard who was sitting behind a bunker did not dare to open fire on the suspects who pulled him out and injured him with butts of guns.

He said seven CCTV cameras installed in and outside the bank captured the whole episode and police were trying to trace the robbers with the help of the footages.

The official said the suspects who were communicating with each other in Pasthu during the robbery, fled the scene on motorcycles.

Police registered a case on the complaint of bank manager Qaiser Abbas.

In another incident, four robbers barged in the jewellery shop of Shahbaz in Shahdara Town police limits and took away cash, gold and silver ornaments all worth Rs3.8 million.

Similarly, three robbers stormed the cell phone outlet of Wahab in Gulshan-i-Iqbal police limits and took away cell phones worth Rs2 million.

Meanwhile, two robbers stopped Ali Khan in South Cantonment police limits and deprived him of Rs1,500 in cash, besides 200 US dollars and a camera. The robbers also subjected the victim to severe torture before fleeing the spot.

Murdered: Six people allegedly killed a bank officer in a gun and knife attack as he was returning home from office in Lalazar Judicial Colony near Thokar Niaz Beg on Thursday.

The Nawab Town station house officer said 27-year-old Gulzar Ali was returning home from office when his neighbour Feroze, his two sons Dawood and Wasif and their three unidentified accomplices approached him near his house and attacked him with knives.

The suspects also shot the victim before fleeing the spot. The banker died immediately.

Police said Feroze suspected that Gulzar, a father of two, persuaded his daughter to leave home and take refuge in Dastak (a shelter).

The SHO said Feroze’s daughter often used to visit Gulzar’s wife.

Police dispatched the body for autopsy and registered a case against six suspects.
