UMERKOT, April 20: An attempt to kidnap a non-Muslim social worker was foiled by the man himself who resisted their bid. He has appealed to the Chief Justice and higher authorities to ensure justice as police was not taking notice of it.

Reportedly, two gunmen barged into the house of Khushhal Meghwar in Dhoronaro town sometime after Thursday midnight.

The man and his family resisted the kidnapping attempt on which dacoits opened fire. However, no one was injured in the firing The dacoits, he said, left a chit demanding Rs500,000 cash and five Rado watches and also warned against informing police. The chit threatened to kill the man which was allegedly written by a dacoit, Qalandro.

The man said that he received a call demanding Rs500,000 some two weeks ago by a man calling himself Qalandro. He informed the area police and wrote an application to SSP Umerko. However, no action was taken and cell number or its tower could not be traced.

The incident had traumatised the family because minority people were being harassed, he said.

A rally was taken out from residence of Khushhal to Girhori bus stop where protesters burnt tyres, chanting slogans against police.
