Health workers suspended

KOHAT, April 21: The commissioner Kohat division on Saturday suspended five male and female employees of the basis health centre Satarsam in Orakzai agency for their absence during duty hours.

The Commissioner Sahibzada Mohammad Anees during a visit of the lower Orakzai agency inspected the basic health unit of Satarsum area. He found three female and two male staff members absent from duty without any intimation.

The suspended staff included lady health visitor Khadeeja Bibi, dispenser Majid Aziz, health workers Sahib Jan, Bakht Taj Begum and Maqsood Ali. He issued their suspension orders on the spot and asked the administration to conduct inquiry against them.—Correspondent

Awareness walk held

UPPER DIR, April 21: A walk was held here on Saturday to raise awareness among the people about the crippling polio disease. Led by DCO Riaz Khan Mehsud, the walk, organised by National Research and Development Foundation (NRDF), was attended by people from all walks of life and EDOs of different departments. The walk started from the DCO office and culminated at Paraw Bridge.

The participants held banners and placards inscribed with pro-vaccination slogans. Mr Mehsud, while addressing the participants, urged people to play their role in eliminating the disease from Upper Dir. He said people should ensure administration of the polio drops to their children below five years of age. Also, the day was observed as prayer day (Youm -i- Dua) to seek God’s help against the disease.

Ulema prayed for elimination of polio from the country, particularly from the district. As part of campaign against polio, the NRDF and the Unicef also held a seminar on the role of teachers in eliminating polio.—Correspondent

Power transformer damaged

PESHAWAR, April 21: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company has said due to severe overload the transformer one at the 132KV Pabbi grid station has been damaged, shifting the load to the transformer two.

Hence additional loadshedding will be carried out on 11KV PSO, Sheikhan, Scarp one, Tarnab, Dagai, Speen Khak, Cherat, New Jalozai, Aman Kot, Pannah Kot and Pabbi city feeders. Pesco regretted the inconvenience and urged its customers to cooperate in this critical time. It was stated that Pesco experts were working on emergency basis to replace the power transformer to end the additional loadshedding.—Bureau Report

Pakhtuns problems

PESHAWAR, April 21: The provincial president of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mukhtar Yousufzai has expressed grave concern over the increasing unemployment, loadshedding and price hike and said that Pakhtuns are the worst-hit as the government is not paying them attention.

He said that there was no scarcity of resources in the province as its oil, gas, forest, mineral resources had been in use of the federal government but its income was not spent on development of the under-developed parts of KP.

While speaking at a public meeting in Qandeel area of Swat on Saturday the PMAP leader said that it was duty of the government to pay prompt attention to the areas which had suffered due to militancy and floods, according to a press release issued in Peshawar. He said that in the garb of deteriorating law and order situation, the resources of Pakhtuns were being usurped by the rulers and added that in the prevailing situation the Pakhtuns would be unable to make progress.—Bureau Report

ATC judge appointed

PESHAWAR, April 21: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government with the consultation of the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court has appointed Justice Mian Faseeh-ul-Mulk, Judge of the high court, as administrative judge of the anti-terrorism court. A statement issued from the Home and Tribal Affairs Department here on Saturday said that he was appointed in addition to his own duties as judge of the Peshawar High Court.—Bureau Report

Tribesmen arrested

KHAR, April 21: The local administration on Saturday arrested several tribesmen during search operation following the destruction of a government-run school by suspected militants in the Sharif Khana area of Nawagai tehsil.

Local people said the administration launched search operation in the area after the school was blown up and arrested 25 people. A local, Said Gulab Khan, told Dawn that some elders were among the arrested persons.

“The local administration has arrested more than 30 local people after the school was destroyed by suspected militants in the area,” said Tariq Khan, assistant political agent of Nawagai sub-division, while talking to Dawn.

He said the arrests were made in accordance with Collective Responsibility Clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), adding owner of the land in which the school was constructed and watchman of the school were among those arrested.—Correspondent
