Five killed in Charsadda

CHARSADDA, April 22: Five persons were killed in different incidents here on Sunday. A man identified as Sangeen Shah killed his son Fairoz Shah over a land dispute in Gulabad Sardaryab, police said. Wife of the diseased registered FIR with the local police.

In another incident, a man identified as Israil, resident of Dahki, killed his sister over unknown reasons. Prior to killing his sister, the accused had quarreled with her.

Three persons, Arshed, Sabz Ali and Ilyas shot dead one Nisar after altercation. Police registered FIR on the report of wife of the diseased.

On the other hand a family dispute claimed life of one Ikramullah, resident of Bahlola. The alleged killers were identified as Dolat Khan and Niamat Khan. Police said Ikramullah was allegedly involved in the murder of the sister of the accused. Meanwhile, Tayab, resident of Mohammadzai village, who had attempted suicide on Saturday, succumbed to injuries on Sunday.—Correspondent

School blown up

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, April 22: A government school was blown up by unknown miscreants in Dera town early on Sunday.

The miscreants planted explosive device at the government middle school, Dera town during night which went off at 3am, officials said. The rooms, boundary wall and record of the school was destroyed

BDS officials said about 17kg explosive was used in the incident. The police also defused another home-made bomb early in the morning. The Dera town police registered an FIR against unknown persons and started investigation.—Correspondent

‘Bajaur to be made polio-free’

KHAR, April 22: Political Agent Islam Zeb has said that Bajaur Agency will be cleared of the polio disease in the current year, asking ulema and parents to play their due role in this regard.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day anti-polio campaign at the rural health centre Charmang in Nawagai tehsil on Sunday, Islam Zeb urged the tribal elders and ulema to extend their support to vaccination teams in their respective areas. He added without assistance of local people the disease could not be eliminated.

Agency surgeon Dr Jan Zeb Dawa, health officials, tribal elders and ulema were present at the opening ceremony.

Agency communication officer Rafiq Ahmad said 217,000 children would be vaccinated during the current campaign across the agency. He said 628 teams had been constituted, adding due to favourable law and order situation the anti-polio campaign will be extended to all the areas of the agency.—Correspondent

Constable shot dead

BANNU, April 22: A police constable was killed by unknown armed persons here on Sunday.

Noor Mohammad, a constable of the Mandan police station, was performing duty when unknown armed persons shot him dead. The attackers, who also took away his official gun, were ridding a motorcycle, police said.

District Police Officer Waqar Khan suspended the entire staff of the Mandan police station, including SHO, for not arresting the killers of the constable.—Correspondent

Petty dispute claims life

LAKKI MARWAT, April 22: A man was shot dead over a minor dispute in Nar Faqeer Masoom area of Naurang town.Police said on Sunday Baitullah, his brother Habibullah and nephew Fareedullah were standing outside their house when their rivals came there and started indiscriminate fire on them.

The complainant, Habibullah, who escaped the attack, told police the accused Mohammad Gul fired at Baitullah, killing him instantly. “Another accused Zahid Gul fired at me and my nephew Fareedullah but we luckily escaped,” he maintained, saying two other accused Noor Aslam and Gul Aslam helped the attackers flee the place by taking them away in a van.

Meanwhile, police on Sunday busted a gang of gamblers in Darra Pezu town and arrested four people with stake money. Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police raided a gambling den in Hayatkhel village and caught four people busy in the ugly practice,” said an official.—Correspondent

Anti-polio walk

MANSEHRA, April 22: Hundreds of schoolchildren and people organised a walk in Kohistan district in connection with the anti-polio drive starting from today (Monday).

The participants of the rally holding banners and placards inscribed with warnings of lethal consequences of polio disease marched on various roads in the city.

Speaking at the walk and later the inaugural ceremony of anti-polio drive, the District Coordination Officer, Kohistan, Aqeel Badshah said the district administration had sought support of ulema and teachers to make the drive a success.

He said parents should realise importance of administering anti-polio drops to their children.

Meanwhile, as many as 763 transit and fixed teams supervised by 169 area in-charges have been set up to administer anti-polio drops to more than 256,000 children of five years of age and below in Mansehra district.—Correspondent
