GUJRAT, April 23: Federal Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira says there should be no politics on the plane crash.

The government has formed a judicial commission to probe the crash rather than appease any political party.

The minister was talking to reporters at his political office in Lalamusa on Monday.

He said the PPP government firmly believed in the freedom of press as President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had been following politics of reconciliation and tolerance since assuming the power. He said the media should also act responsibly as false, baseless and fabricated stories in a section of media were being presented which would not be tolerated. He said freedom of press did not mean that the media behave irresponsibly.

Mr Kaira was critical of the media due to a report carried by a section of the press that he had initiated an inquiry against the conduct of his predecessor Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan. Kaira categorically denied the report of any such inquiry against Dr Firdous.

He said troops could not be withdrawn unilaterally from Siachen keeping in view the past experience when the Indian forces occupied the no man’s land.

He admitted that the electricity loadshedding was a serious matter. He said people used to register protest for their rights when the country was being governed by the democratic parties whereas the parties staged demonstrations to seek restoration of the Constitution during a dictatorial setup.
