PESHAWAR, April 24: The local administration on Tuesday directed all district coordination officers and district revenue officers in the division to effectively block transfer of land to Afghan nationals.

Also DCOs were told to speed up the process of compilation of the record of non-locals in their respective districts to check movement of anti-state elements.

The directives were issued during a meeting, which Commissioner of Peshawar division Tariq Jamil chaired to here to review implementation of decisions of special meeting of the provincial cabinet. Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera DCOs and commissioner for Afghan refugees attended the meeting.

Participants were informed that all DCOs had formed special committees at district and village levels to protect rights of consumers and control prices of essential commodities and that they along with price magistrates visited bazaars and conduct raids on shops to fine profiteers.

They were also told that a price control cell had been established at the office of Peshawar commissioner.

The meeting decided that the Peshawar DCO would hold a news conference along with the commissioner for Afghan refugees to sensitise people to illegal stay of Afghan nationals.

The Peshawar commissioner said the Azakhel Afghan Refugee Camp had been done away with but refugees continued to illegally live along the railway track. He asked Nowshera DCO to remove them all.

The meeting also discussed militancy, kidnapping cases and Afghan refugees living in Peshawar division, and took necessary decisions about them.
