ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) member of the parliament Nadeem Afzal Gondal on Wednesday has been selected as unopposed new chairman of Public Account Committee (PAC).

According to details, members of the committee consulted the names for the new chairman, following which they selected the MNA Nadeem Afzal Gondal without any opposition.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah said that it was decided in the Charter of Democracy that the PAC chairman would be selected from the opposition and the PPP-led government gave the PAC chairmanship to Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, however, he resigned from the office due to certain reasons.

Shah added that the PPP had also written a letter to Chaudhry Nisar and sought his suggestions regarding new PAC chairman but he did not respond in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention here that in coming months the committee would take up the audit objections and paras in which mostly the PPP government was involved.
