ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday said that the parliament is mother of all institutions which creates constitution, does amendments and takes decision on any such issue.

Speaking to media representatives at Islamabad Club after attending a function, he said the parliament is creator of all institutions including the judiciary.

On statement of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif that he (Nawaz) does not recognise the prime minister and the cabinet, the minister said “it appears Mian Sahib (Nawaz Sharif) does not fully understand the constitution.”

“One brother is refusing to accept the president and other is not recognizing the prime minister,” he added.

Kaira said the government has taken all steps within the constitutional limit, adding that Sharif cannot deprive them from the constitutional right of appeal in the contempt case.

The minister said Nawaz Sharif was punished in plane hijacking case in 2002 but he filed a review appeal after nine years for his acquittal. “We respect judiciary and its verdicts,” he said.

He lamented statement of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan that PM Gilani would not be allowed to enter the house, saying that the parliament was not a battle ground.

He said it was the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) which convinced Nawaz Sharif to contest elections and now once again he would be convinced through dialogue.

The information minister said the government believes in politics of reconciliation and not of confrontation.

He said no institution is above the constitution including the judiciary.

He said one decision is given by court and other by people in favour of PPP as its candidate won provincial assembly seat in Multan on Thursday.

The minister said the PPP is not afraid of anybody as it enjoys support of people.
