Come on, there is a narrative that those great rulers ruled the "golden sparrow" for thousands of years. Why poke holes in this beautiful, self-gratifying theory?

For those of you who are short sighted on history and even in understanding Islam, should know that economy of any country is heavily relied on construction industry even today. Mughals built monuments perhaps for their own name but this is how they used to develop a country's economy. Most of their monuments were not mere construction projects but served many scientific and art purpose. Building universities, they could have but they were not destined nor any muslim dynasty of that era were destined to achieve Renaissance as Almighty had different designs for Muslims, as these achievements were related to spiritual renaissance of Muslims that were to occur in latter days which arevthe hay days of the west, such as this time and period (ref. Holy Quran. Al-Kahf).

Akbar is greatly focused & emphasized (sometimes exaggerated) in some parts than other Mughal emperors probably for his secular view. If you go through some European Historians writings, he captured a lot of kingdoms and went through fierce battles NOT less than any other Mughal or other emperors of that time. That is the way of that age (Medieval). I have great admiration for Akbar as well as other Mughal emperors (as well as complains) for different reasons. And tell me what university did Akbar build for the mass.

Not sure how people can claim that Mugals did nothing for the common people. Mughal empire accounted for over 15% of world GDP. Between Ottomans, Mugals and Chinese, they controlled 65% of world's trading. Yes, the divide between poor and rich was wide but in this era these nations did more fpr their people than any other.

If building Taj Mahal, RED Fort etc was not progress and development then why Indians still celebrate their independence day in Red Fort and earn billions in terms of tourism from these places and why was India called golden sparrow by that time?
