KARACHI: Pakistan is set to feature in Olympic shooting after receiving a wildcard entry from the International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF) on Monday.
One Pakistani skeet shooter will be able to participate in the London Olympics, the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) said.
“We have received a communiqué from the International Sports Shooting Federation today for the allocation of one wildcard entry for London Olympics,” NRAP’s Executive Vice President Razi Ahmed Khan said.
“It is good news that a Pakistani shooter will be featuring in the skeet shooting event,” he added.
Four Pakistani shooters, including Khurram Inam, Ahmed Sultan, Amin Karamat and Abdul Sattar obtained the Maximum Qualifying Scores (MQS) during the international competition.
“MQS is the main criteria for picking one shooter for Olympics,” Razi explained, adding that since four Pakistani shooters were available for qualification, only one will be picked for the Olympic wildcard spot.
NRAP will conduct one-day trials among the top four to select one best skeet shooter to represent Pakistan in London.
Trials will be held at the Pakistan Navy International Shooting Range this month.
Khurram Inam, who represented Pakistan in 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics, scored 116/125 points during the ISSF World Shooting Championship held in Munich last year. Meanwhile, Abdul Sattar of Pakistan Navy secured ninth spot in the skeet event, with a score of 119/125 in the Asian Shooting Championship held in Doha last year.
Inam also won this year’s National Skeet crown in Jhelum.
