ISLAMABAD: A South Korean firm has vowed to help Pakistan ease of out its energy crisis by providing 300 megawatts of electricity by solar means.
Officials of CX Solar, who met with the Minister for Power and Water Naveed Qamar in Islamabad on Wednesday, have shown interest in producing solar-energy based electricity.
Dr Choi Moon Sok, who led the delegation, said his firm can produce 50MW power within ten months and that the project 300MW power-generation can be completed by 2015.
Sok said Korea wants to shift the Prime Minster House to a solar-energy system, a gift from Seoul to Islamabad.
Hyderabad’s Civil Hospital and Chandka Medical College are being shifted to solar energy and 6MW power will be generated for these projects, Sok added.
Appreciating the Korean offer, Federal Minister Qamar said that tariff for power generation from solar sector will be announced soon.
The government has abolished sales tax and custom duty on solar panels and related equipment, in a bid to attract consumers to solar energy.
“In the agricultural sector, work on solar-energy-based water pumping and heating is helping save energy, already,” Qamar said.
