“Shoor Veer” or Brave Warrior is one of India’s largest mock war drills involving 20,000 troops. More than 300 combat vehicles and 60,000 troops took part in the exercise held in the Indian desert state which borders Pakistan.
The event was held less than 200 kilometres (124 miles) from the highly militarised border with Pakistan.
Dahiya dismissed fears that the exercise —to be conducted by an elite military corps raised only for cross-border assault —would crank up tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad before the training began.
“We do inform Pakistan in advance whenever such large-scale exercises are conducted by us,” the army colonel added. – Photos by AFP.

Most of the time Indian newspapers publish bias reporting against Pakistan. They dont like to report on the positives about Pakistan., unlike Dawn.
dawn is objective and to a large extent unbiased
HINDU never ever sensationalised any matter.. before printing any issue it waits till the perfect source comes…
and moreover to read and understand HINDU, one should be too perfect in english… interesting thing is DAWN and HINDU collaborated in publishing wikileaks documents related to both INDIA and PAKISTAN …
I am rating HINDU as superior because everyday i go through its print media ,and there are writers from all continents and many are big renounced writers from around the globe.. i have never came across print media of DAWN so my knowledge is limited, but as i have gone through the online forum of DAWN, they have too less international writers ..
and to TOI readers sorry, its not a news provider they are porn provider, TOI is a porn website..
the worst newspaper i have ever gone through is TOI ..
I LOVE DAWN FOR TRUE AND UNBIASED REPORTS ABOUT INDIAN SUB-CONTINENT
yes dawn is most of the time refraining from writing good of india, like the India Grand Prix, IPL, Economy growth, Satellite Launch, Record grain production..this would make the Pakistani readers get the real picture of fast growing India. At the same time Pakistan has no sufficient grains available to feed the people, the economy is in slump, no team is ready to play cricket in pakistan. Dawn should tackle such issues without fear. For journalism whats right is right.
I LIKE DAWN,HINDU IS OK,BUT AS INDIAN I THINK DAWN IS LITTLE BETTER THAN ALL THE INDIAN NEWS PAPER.THEY SHOULD HAVE INDIAN FOAM IN THERE WEB..
unbiased news coverage
I don't understand why DAWN is giving more coverage to news related to Indian defense or poverty, best example is India's Agni missile test was reported by DAWN but there was not a single mention of India's successful rocket launch of remote sensing satellite after a week!!!, already both nations have enmity towards each other and by showing routine military exercise as some thing big will lead to more hate…In India so many positive things are happening if such things are reported in DAWN – that will encourage the Pakistani public to feel if India can do this why not Pakistan, but if you show only the negative side of India – your public will assume we are much better (which is not) then India and will take you to a deeper slumber, DAWN have you ever shown such photos on India's metro rail systems, New airports, Indian IT, Auto, Pharma or other industries??
I noticed that too.
@Tamil, As a Pakistani i 100% agrees with you… But you know they say no news is a good news, and for media good news is not a news…
No need to tell pakistanis about indian It, pharma, new airports or other industries. Because Pakistan has its own IT, Pharma, building new airports and other industries. We have more sensational news and happenings in fashion industry for example than India. So why would a pakistani news paper cover indian news which are not sensational for us?
Are u missing something or what?
Do indian news papers tell indians about pakistani industry? What`s so sensational about indian It or pharma?
pakistani society has such a huge dimenssions of sensational news that stories from india are just too small to place them in pakistani news papers.
Point taken. But India is an emerging superpower and its defence preparedness, ability and power is also a positive aspect.
Dawn's presentation of news from India is very professional and impartial not pandering to the usual Hindu-Muslim rigmarole. I think you need to open an India section and perhaps it could further boost your on-line advertising revenue from Indian companies who seem to be taking a substantial share of the same already. S Rajendran
awesome exercise….But this should not be taken in negative by other countries…We are proud to see if such exercise to see from your end as well.!!!
Just four pictures?
I agree with you Abhishek. TOI sucks…
I am Indian too, and I read the Dawn because I feel your news is unbiased and "news". Visit our leading newspaper's website "The Times of India" and Veena Malik and Poonam Pandey make headlines everyday.
DAWN is amazing, our indian TOI is interested in publishing cheap nude photographs, TOI can u compite with dawn,
Please read 'The Hindu' for serious news and better journalism(I am talking about Indian news papers only). TOI can be best used for entertainment purposes. The editors at TOI are not great with grammar and depend a lot on sensationalizing a given news. I love Dawn and The Hindu.
As for Dawn, I wonder how this paper survives in Pakistan. But I like their neat and clean layout. News is mostly sourced from AFP or other agencies, but full credit to the dawn team, for assorting it in a nice way. As for editors, I don't find them any better or worse than those who run TOI. But they have done something right, for I read Dawn more than I read TOI, But then again, now a days Pakistan is where the news is :-; What happens in that country, will one day affect everybody. It already does every time you go to the airport
Agree with Abhishek &Arun.Wish you little more objective in reporting Govt. welfare schemes.
Fantastic coverage!!! Way to go guys
I really like reading DAWN for india news rather than TOI or any other of that sort. I feel DAWN is comparable to "The Hindu" in reporting, in addition its presentation is better than "The Hindu". I really wish if you have a India section in your website or open a subsidiary in India for solely Indian news. Nice coverage !!
I too like Dawn's impartiality and its studied aversion to religious jingoism. I often read India news in Dawn. Its report on the plight of beleagured Hindus in Pak was courageous.
The Hindu is the best newspaper in the world. Devoid of sensationalism, its veracity, integrity and objectivity cannot be matched. Its has some great journalists and contributors like Parveen Swamy, Anita Joshua and MK Bhadrakumar to mention but a few. And this from a Pakistani.
you are correct.without seeing the paper my work on that will not start.
mani.a., chennai. india
Does HINDU covers Pakistan's Military Exercises in the same way like this one by DAWN ? Does HINDU has a PAKISTAN Section ?
Moin , how would Hindu benefit by such a section – if dawn by having stories interesting to Indians can gain 15% of indian online news readers – it will effectively double its readership – on the reverse , if Hindu gains 15% of online pakistani news readers , it will increase Hindu's readership by 2% – it doesnt have the same impact – Indian market is big and India is not equal to Pakistan ( does not mean India is better – it just means India is much bigger ) – so things will be different and at a point we should sit up and realize the fact for what it is .
No indian news site has pakistan section.. It is not that important
u r missing the point completely
I read dawn at net whenever I get a chance. its objectivity ,intellectual standard and fearlessness are praiseworthy. It has cleared many a doubt about Pakistan which we were nourishing before we had access to net
Indians dont think like a Hindu Vs Muslim issue.
No doubt about what you said. I am addicted to reading The Dawn everyday. This paper always presents the information before making any conclusion. Their reporting and editorials are far superior than many leading news houses in India
Absolutely right Abhishek. Our media is bought out. Dawn is doing a great job under circumstances, as difficult as Pakistan. Dawn should open up in India and maintain independent reporting. You are right about TOI and Hindu.
