‘Go-Gilani-go’ rally in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Muslim League-N’s MNA Khwaja Saad Rafiq has said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani should quit immediately because he has been convicted in the contempt case by the Supreme Court and is no longer fit to act as chief executive of the country.
Addressing a ‘go Gilani, go’ rally here on Sunday, he said that if the PML-N launched a long march then it would not only be seeking the prime minister’s resignation but also the ouster of the coalition government.
Mr Rafiq said the rulers were involved in contempt of court as well as in contempt of democracy.
He termed the current system “yellow democracy” and asked the people to join the PML-N’s anti-Gilani campaign. “We are
inviting everyone to join hands with the PML-N in the movement against the government.”
He said a leader who used to dub the PML-N as a friendly apposition was now reluctant to protest against a convicted prime minister and was defending his right of appeal against the Supreme Court’s verdict. “We supported the government because we wanted to eradicate poverty, lawlessness and unemployment but when we felt that President Asif Ali Zardari was playing a game with the nation, we quit it.”
Mr Rafiq said the PML-N wanted to make south Punjab a province to solve the problems of the people of the area but it also wanted Hazara, Bahawalpur and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas to be declared provinces on a purely administrative basis, not on an ethnic basis.
He said the opposition’s movement would force the prime minister to resign before having to stage a long march.
He advised his party’s activists not to mind the claims of Interior Minister Rehman Malik who, according to him, was busy securing his job.
Other PML-N leaders and legislators also addressed the rally.
