ISLAMABAD: The opposition on Monday criticised the statement of Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar regarding restoration of Nato supply and termed it as insult of the parliament.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Raja Zafarul Haq on a point of order in the Senate criticised the statement by the defence minister published in the newspapers, saying that it is against the spirit of resolution of the parliament and recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on the National Security (PCNS).

The defence minister in his statement said that sanctions can be imposed on Pakistan if Nato supplies do not restored.

The PML-N boycotted today's proceedings of the house in protest.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) also staged a token walkout on the issue. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor also termed the statement of the defence minister as insult of the parliament.

Meanwhile, PCNS chairman Senator Raza Rabbani said Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has assured the PCNS that the government is formulating policies keeping in view the new terms of engagement with the United States.

She also briefed the committee on the progress on terms of engagement, Rabbani added.
