RAWALPINDI, May 6: A man was put behind bars after his cattle strayed on to the motorway near Taxila when the motorcade of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was proceeding to Peshawar on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Faujdar Mohammad Sadiq’s buffalo and two calves were also taken into custody and put in a private cattle pen because the police do not have the facility to detain animals in.

“The buffalo and the two calves will be released only after the owner pays the penalty,” a duty official in the Taxila police station told Dawn on Sunday.

Though the VVIP motorcade continued its journey without interruption, the appearance of the animals on the road panicked the motorway police.

The buffalo and the calves were rounded up and shifted to the police station where a complaint was lodged by Inspector Masroor Hussain of the motorway police.

When contacted, Station House Officer Inspector Sardar Shakeel confirmed that the owner of the animals had been arrested after registration of a case against him on the charge of negligence.
