Talk shows are farcical

PAKISTANI politics has always been in turmoil. It has been subjected to critical views all round the globe by hundreds of television channels in every language.

Every channel hosts many talk shows, not only in Urdu but in many other regional languages as well.

Nevertheless this kind of politics has given a boost to talk shows in recent years. With the increase in quantity, a decrease in quality can now be seen.

Day and night, almost after every news bulletin, a talk show is hosted in which renowned people are invited to ponder over a current issue.

Pointless talks and over-criticism, including baseless arguments, have become a bane of these talk shows.

This is affecting the viewpoint of a normal Pakistani who after a long and tiring day wants some quality news and views.

The talk shows in recent times are lacking their true purpose. With such a strong medium of communication at their disposal, it is their job to be neutral in every aspect and refrain from unnecessary details.

The talk shows are doing their part they are showing us the defencies, we as the audience and a nation are sleeping. A lot of problems are discussed,excuses are given and there are some solutions also. Please you are not a toddler that someone else will spoon feed and change the diaper. some steps we have to take ourselves, right or wrong. as an educated and free thinking human being we have to see the problem,devise a solution and then implment it, if it does not work "oh well" back to the drawing board. Give up the dreams that a servant or a foreign power will raise you, you have to break eggs to make an omelet.

Yea and to add to that none of these talks shows have achieved anything. Every host is known to have a particular view and sticks to his or her party views no matter what the subject is. To add to that there are scores of ex generals and Defense analyst who come in handy whenever US or India is to be criticised. Too much patriotism, hate mongering and pessimism has become the hallmark of most of these shows. SInce most of these shows are now available on Youtube I really appreciate the fast forward button.

It has been observed that during the talk-shows if one person blames the other for some weakness, the second person instead of clearing the blame, starts counter blaming the first one; with the result that a boring and endless argument/quarrel starts taking place wasting the time of the programme. The blamed person should be made to clear his position first and then allowed to put forward his allegation. Under such disciplined atmosphere the talk-show will sound worth and substantial, otherwise the show remains repulsive and boring.
