MULTAN, May 10: A threatening letter allegedly sent by Taliban created panic among the local lawyers community at lower courts here on Thursday.

“We have received a threatening letter from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in which they termed court practice against the Shariah,” District Bar Association President Hafiz Allah Ditta Kashif told this correspondent.

He said in the letter, the TTP threatened to attack the district courts.

He said the lawyers would not be subdued by this threat and contact the security agencies and the district administration on Friday (today) in this regard.

The bar president said some terrorists arrested from Rawalpindi had informed the investigating agencies that they were planning to attack Multan district courts.

He said the district bar had received a similar threat last year and the lawyers’ representatives had held various meetings with police and the district administration to form a joint strategy to thwart any terror bid targeting courts.

He said various security measures were discussed, including increasing the number of security staff and installation of more walkthrough gates.—Staff Correspondent
