LAHORE, May 11: The Gawalmandi police registered a case against unidentified men for allegedly kidnapping a trader of Hall Road for a ransom of Rs7 million.

A source said the trader was identified as Khyzar Hayat of Johar Town. He said his family received a call from kidnappers who demanded Rs7 million for the release of Hayat.

Quoting Hafiz Aftab, a close relative of the victim, the police said Hayat was on his way to his electronics shop when he was kidnapped.

Released: The Tibbi City police released a woman after a brief detention for allegedly kidnapping a newborn from the Lady Willingdon Hospital on Friday.

Muhammad Islam, of Kot Abdul Malik, said the woman identified as Shumaila Ashraf snatched his newborn from his wife at the hospital and ran away. With the help of passerby, he captured the woman and handed her over the Tibbi City police.

The police officials, however, declared the woman a mentally challenged and released her. The police said the affected family had refused to lodge a complaint against Shumaila, a resident of Bhati Gate. — Staff Reporter
