MARDAN, May 12: Police and locals on Saturday foiled a bid to hijack a school bus at the Mangal Bagh Chowk.

Khalid Naseem, Deputy Superintendent of the City Police, told media persons that the accused identified as Ahsan Mohammad, a retired military personnel, hailing from Katlang area, tried to kidnap the students of Peshawar Model School, who were boarding the school bus.

He said the accused with his pistol was overpowered by passers-by and officials of traffic police deployed at the Mangal Bagh Chowk.

The police official said the accused seemed to mentally disturbed and they had asked doctors at the district headquarters hospital for his examination.

The officials of city police station, however, registered FIR against the accused on the complaint of staff of the Peshawar Model School and started further investigation.
