KARACHI, May 13: Chief Minister’s Adviser on Relief Haleem Adil Shaikh said on Sunday that the response of world community to help the flood-hit people of Sindh remained poor as by March this year, the government received only three per cent of the total commitments.
He said this on the occasion of launching the official website of the Sindh relief department (www.sindhrelief.gov.pk) from where all information could be collected regarding emergency response units, prevention plans, site maps, raw data, district reports, etc.The programme was held at a local hotel, where Karachi Commissioner Roshan Shaikh, Additional Relief Commissioner Ayub Marri, several foreign diplomats including the consuls general of China, United States, Japan, Russia, Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, were also present.
Mr Shaikh said: “We are aware that our region is constantly under threat of ensuing floods due to the climate change on account of global warming, which calls for preparedness for upcoming monsoon and an expected catastrophe in 2012”.
A documentary on the efforts of the relief department was also screened.—Staff Reporter
