HYDERABAD, May 16: Timely intervention by police saved a robber from being lynched by an unruly mob here on Wednesday.

A gang of robbers deprived Nadeem Qureshi of Rs200,000 in front of his shop where he had reached after drawing the amount from a bank.

He resisted the bandits who opened fire in panic, hitting Bhagwan Das, a pedestrian. People chased them and got hold of one of them.

The mob was going to burn him alive when police reached there and took him into custody. He was later identified as Haibat Khan Arain, said to be resident of Khanewal.

“People had even sprinkled oil over his body before we took him into custody,” said DSP Ejaz Bhatti. Bhagwan Das was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

In another armed robbery a trader, Ghulam Mohiyuddin, was shot at and injured in Latifabad unit 8 in the jurisdiction of A-section police station.

He resisted the bandits who deprived him of Rs50,000. He was taken to hospital after a bullet, fired by bandits, pierced through his leg.
