Girls college blown up

JAMRUD, May 17: Militants blew up the building of government degree college for women in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency by detonating powerful bomb with a remote control device. No casualty was reported, officials said on Thursday.

According to the political administration, the improvised explosive devices (IED) was planted at the outer wall of the college, which was blasted with a remote control device.

The building and boundary wall were severely damaged but no casualty was reported in the blast. The political tehsildar, Asmat Wazir, soon after the incident visited the site and registered case against unknown outlaws. —APP

ANP leader joins PTI

PESHAWAR, May 17: A local leader of Awami National party Haji Mohammad Naeem has joined Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf.

He announced it during a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday where he was also flanked by relatives, friends and PTI leader Zafarullah Khattak.

Mr Naeem claimed though he was joint secretary of the ANP, Peshawar city he was not satisfied with its performance. According to him, the PTI was the best platform at present. He said the ANP had lost its credibility due to what he said its wrong policies.

Mr Naeem said the ANP did not provide any relief to the innocent people in the province against rising inflation, loadshedding and unemployment. He also claimed a large number of ANP workers would say goodbye to the party and would soon join the PTI. —Bureau Report

Postal officials arrested

PESHAWAR, May 17: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday arrested two Pakistan Post officials for being involved in irregularities regarding payment of pension money to military personnel.

Postmaster Jandola Alla-ud-Din and Shah Nawaz, assistant postmaster, Tank were allegedly involved in misappropriating Rs38 million pension money.

The Bureau authorised an inquiry after receiving a complaint regarding fraudulent payment in military pension in Jandola, Tank and other post offices of the area.

According to a statement issued here on Thursday a thorough inquiry was conducted into the matter. The accused persons will be produced before the accountability court for obtaining their physical remand. —Bureau Report     

Ban on renting out houses

PESHAWAR, May 17: The district administration has banned renting out houses without prior registration of the tenants with the police. Those found guilty of violating the law would be charged under the section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

A statement issued from the office of district coordination officer on Thursday said the ban had been imposed to stop movement of the suspected elements into different localities of Peshawar.

Property dealers have also been informed to abide by the law otherwise strict action would be taken against them. The police have been directed to take action against the heads of the newly arriving families and concerned property dealers if they failed to follow the law.

The administration has set May 25 as deadline for the people to show their identity to the concerned police station to avoid action against them. Illegal immigrants (foreigners) have also been warned of action. Meanwhile, the DCO has also taken notice of the reports against certain people, showing themselves as price magistrates and collecting extortion money from the shopkeepers in different areas. —Bureau Report

Vaccination of animals

SWABI, May 17: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa livestock and dairy development department on Thursday started vaccinating animals against deadly diseases in different areas of the district with positive response by the people.

Doctors led by district livestock officer Dr Ahadullah Khan, Dr Habibur Rehman and Dr Salim Khan visited different areas in PK-35 and PK-36 in Swabi and vaccinated thousands of animals including buffalos, goats, oxen, sheep against foot and mouth diseases.

Speaking on the occasion, district livestock officer Dr Ahadullah Khan said the activity was aiming to protect animals from fatal foot and mouth diseases. He called upon people to look after their animals by giving them clean water and protect them from scorching heat. The official said vaccination would continue in the district and asked livestock owners to approach nearby hospitals if doctors did not come to their areas. —APP

Exam schedule

PESHAWAR, May 17: The BA/BSc part-I-II annual examination 2012 of Kohat University of Science and Technology will commence from May 31.

The roll number slips of regular/late college candidates will be delivered to their respective colleges, whereas roll number slips of the private candidates will be dispatched on their respective postal addresses.

A statement issued here on Thursday said the B.Ed annual examination of the university will commence from June 13.

Roll number slips of the candidates along with the date sheet will be dispatched on their respective addresses in due course of time.

The statement said the B.Com part-I-II annual examination will commence from June 7. Roll number slips of regular/late college candidates along with the date sheet will be delivered to their respective colleges on May 24. —Bureau Report

Construction of roads

PESHAWAR, May 17: The government has allocated Rs500 million for construction of roads in the areas famous for mining and minerals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, says Provincial Minister for Minerals Development Mehmood Zeb Khan.

Addressing a conference here on Thursday, the minister said the government had given special attention to mineral sector and collected about Rs1 billion receipts that was only Rs600 million three years ago.

To promote mining sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the minister said the government had established offices at district level and purchased vehicles for easy travel of officers of the department. He laid emphasis on encouraging private sector to strengthen economy and generate jobs for youth.

He said only in Buner district about 20,000 people were working in mineral sector and were contributing to national kitty.—APP

Free eye camp

PESHAWAR, May 17: As part of providing latest healthcare facilities to the under privileged people of tribal areas at their doorsteps, Army Medical Corps with the help of doctors of agency headquarters hospital organised a three-day free eye camp at Miramshah in North Waziristan Agency, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.

In the camp, 553 patients, including males, females and children from all over NWA, were examined and treated by the team of army eye specialists, and 26 patients were extended cataract surgery at army field hospital Miramshah.—APP
