LAHORE, May 18: The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested four employees of the postal service for allegedly committing a fraud of Rs50 million.

The FIA anti-corruption wing launched an investigation on a complaint that a ‘mafia’ in the postal service, Lahore, was committing fraud in the accounts of pensioners.

Wing’s Assistant Director Jamil Ajmal Khan carried out the investigation and arrested assistant postmaster Aslam Qureshi, clerks Sohail Riaz, Muhammad Usman and Israr Ahmed.

Three clerks – Azam Khan, Javed Khalid and Khateeb Hashmi – are absconding.

The FIA said the accused made fake vouchers to withdraw the amount. “So far the racket had committed a fraud of Rs50 million,” the agency said, adding the investigation was under way as some senior officials of the postal service were also involved in it.
