UMERKOT, May 19: A newly-married couple was kidnapped from the premises of a court here on Saturday.

Ali Ahmed said his son Abdul Razzaq had solemnised Nikah with Umme Umera, daughter of Ali Mohammad Arain, in the court of the civil judge of Chhachhro on May 14.

He said Umera had left her house in Kunri on May 12 to marry his son. However, her relatives registered a kidnapping and theft case against Abdul Razzaq and his two brothers with Kunri police on May 15.

He said the couple arrived in the court of civil judge of Umerkot on Saturday to record their statements. Their arrival was kept secret but ASI Bhai Khan Rind knew about it.

He alleged that Bhai Khan informed family members of the woman who kidnapped her and her husband.

One of the kidnappers, Arshad, had been caught by them and handed over to police, Ali Ahmed said.

He said they had informed the civil judge about the incident and he had ordered police to register a case. But police refused to register the case when they approached them.

He expressed the fear that the couple might be killed in the name of honour killing.

He said they would file a petition in the Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court against police and relatives of the woman on Monday.
