PESHAWAR, May 19: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has claimed that the government with the support of the tribal people and the law-enforcement agencies has cleared a vast chunk of Fata from militancy.

He said concerted efforts were underway to reconstruct damaged infrastructure; rehabilitate civic amenities and bring normalisation on accelerated speed.

The governor was talking to the visiting Assistant State Secretary of Switzerland, Mr Beat Nobs, who called on him here the other day. Mr Nobs was accompanied by Swiss Ambassador in Pakistan Mr Christoph Bubb and senior Swiss regional coordinator Mr Teter Nelson.

Mr Kausar said that the government was endeavouring to provide opportunities to tribesmen through skill development, agriculture, livestock and medium enterprises initiatives.

Referring to various points, the governor said, people of Fata used to be highly peaceful; accommodative and democratic and the problem of terrorism was fully alien to them.

Talking on another point, the governor said, youth are being trained in various trades and professional skills on the one hand while on the other economic opportunities are being promoted by focusing on development of mineral, agricultural and communication sectors. Indeed, he said, terrorism and militancy were the issues of international level and ‘we feel satisfied for having overcome them successfully’.

While referring to importance of trade and business activities towards promotion of employment opportunities in Fata, the governor said, apart from the famous international route of Torkham four other points were also being developed to further enhance accessibility of transit trade through Fata with Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi called on Barrister Masood Kausar at Governor House on Friday.

He discussed with the governor various matters pertaining to well-being of the people of the province.  Mr Kundi invited the attention of the governor towards certain problems being faced by the people of Dera Ismail Khan district, which is his home town.
