LAHORE, May 19: Wapda grabbed both the gold medals at stake on the opening day of the National Weightlifting Championships at the Punjab University ground here on Saturday.
Abdullah Ghafoor earned the first gold medal for Wapda in the 56kg category when he lifted 234kg, leaving behind his departmental mate Mohammad Shahzad, who lifted 232kg. Saqib Ali of Army remained third (215kg).
Ishtiaq Ghafoor gave Wapda their second gold of the day when he lifted 255kg weight in the 62kg category. The second position was claimed by Imran Ismail of the Higher Education Commission (234kg) while Aamir Butt of Army (224kg) secured the third position.—Sports Reporter
