KARACHI, May 20: Two people, including a worker of the Jamaat-i-Islami, were killed and a policeman was wounded in different parts of the metropolis on Sunday, police said.

A 55-year-old driver of Al-Khidmat Foundation, Tariq, son of Ghulam Haider, was gunned down in Orangi, the police said.

SHO Matiullah said that Tariq was going somewhere when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him and sped away.

He added that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

Tariq resided in the Ghausia Iqbal area of Baloch Colony in Orangi Town, and originally hailed from Rahim Yar Khan, said the SHO.

The police investigators said that Tariq had six children and the eldest one of them, Raju, was also shot dead nine months back. They said the initial investigation suggested personal enmity as a possible motive for the killing.

According to a handout later issued by the Jamaat-i-Islami, Tariq was their worker.

Faith healer

A 60-year-old faith healer was gunned down inside his astana in Gulshan-i-Maymar within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

Three men entered the monastery in Gul Goth and escaped after killing Manzoor aka Faqir, son of Siraj, said DSP Iftikhar Lodhi.

He suspected that the faith healer was shot dead over a monetary dispute. He said investigators found that he had a dispute over Rs10,000.

The deceased hailed from Punjab, the police said, adding that further investigation was under way.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs of the victim.

SI wounded

A sub-inspector posted at the central jail was shot at and wounded in Binori Mohalla of Orangi.

SI Shahnawaz belonged to the special branch of police, said Mominabad SHO Nasir Mehmood.

He added that the victim was on his way home from work when he was sprayed with bullets.

The police officer sustained five gunshot wounds and was rushed to a private hospital.

Doctors described his condition as critical, according to the police.
