KARACHI, May 20: Noted film, television and stage actor Ibrahim Nafees passed away after a protracted illness here on Sunday. He was in his mid-70s. He is survived by a wife, two sons and a daughter.

Ibrahim Nafees was born in Agra, India. After migrating to Pakistan he joined show business. He worked on Radio Pakistan Hyderabad for a brief period and then graduated to films. One of his early films was Ishq-i-Habib. He went on to act in a number of commercially successful and critically acclaimed movies, many of which had Waheed Murad in the main lead.

Ibrahim Nafees was known for his roles that had negative shades but could also play a variety of parts without any difficulty. Some of his successful films were Ahsaan, Jab Jab Phool Khile, Heera Aur Pathar and Andleeb. The marked feature of his art was the naturalness with which he used to perform different characters. He made very good use of his voice and could say the most meaningful of lines in undertones.

Ibrahim Nafees left the film industry in the beginning of its decline and joined the television industry and Karachi’s commercial theatre scene.

His role in Umer Sharif’s famous theatre production Bakra Qiston Per was very well received. He was also a very active member of the Karachi Arts Council.
