KARACHI, May 21: At least six people, including two women, were shot dead in different parts of the city on Monday, police said.

The body of a young man who was kidnapped on Sunday evening was found dumped by a roadside in the Baghdadi area of Lyari on Monday.

A gunny bag containing the body was spotted on Shah Waliullah Road early in the morning, said an official at the Baghdadi police station.

He added that Sheikh Niazi, 22, son of Habib Niazi, was kidnapped near his home at Niazi Chowk in Kalri.

The victim was trussed up and shot dead somewhere else before being dumped at the abandoned place, said Baghdadi SHO Ali Raza.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.

The victim sustained bullet wounds to his face and head, the officer added.

Initial investigations indicated that the deceased had no criminal record, the police said.

Apparently, they added, some gangsters in Lyari were suspected to have been behind the murder.

Woman shot dead in Korangi

A 40-year-old woman suspected to be a drug peddler was gunned down near her home in Korangi 100-Quarters, police said.

Shabana, 40, wife of Muzaffar, used to sell narcotics and was booked in drug cases at different police stations, said Zaman Town SHO Dilawar Jokhio.

He said the body bearing three gunshot wounds was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The police investigators suspected some monetary dispute behind the murder. They said the woman was the mother of three children.

Man killed in Orangi

A man was shot dead inside his home in Orangi Town, said an official at the Mominabad police station.

The police said Shafi Qadir hailed from Bajaur and his son, Ata Babar, fled following the killing raising suspicion of his involvement in the murder.

“Atta Babar had a criminal record,” said Mominabad SHO Nasir Mehmood. He added that the police were conducting raids at possible hideouts to arrest him.

The police suspected that Shafi Qadir was killed over a property dispute.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Trader gunned down

A poultry trader was killed at his shop in Mujahid Colony, said an official at the Nazimabad police station.

He added that 34-year-old Fareed Shah, son of Riaz Shah, was at his shop in Mujahid Colony No 4, Nazimabad, where he was targeted.

The official said armed men riding a motorcycle fired at him and fled. He sustained a bullet to his head and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

DSP Shahid Abbas said the victim, hailing from Haripur in Hazara, was a resident of Mujahid Colony. He was the father of three children.

“Initial findings have indicated that the killing was the result of some personal enmity,” said the officer.

While the DSP denied that the victim had any political association, sources in the police said he had been an active member of the Hazara province movement.

Young mother gunned down

A young woman was shot dead near a bus stop in Pir Elahi Bakhsh Colony, police said.

Ali Raheel and his wife, Kainat, were going in a car to his sister’s home when they were intercepted by armed riders in the main bazaar near the bus stop within the remit of the PIB Colony police station, the officials added.

When Raheel did not stop, the armed men riding a motorbike opened fire on the car. In the firing, 25-year-old Kainat sustained a gunshot wound. Raheel rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where she died.

The victim was a resident of Block 13, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, said ASI Rana Ajmal, a duty officer at the PIB Colony police station. He said Raheel had a car business and the couple had a child.

Following medico-legal formalities at the JPMC, the body was handed over to her family.

Robbers kill guard

A 50-year-old security guard was shot dead when he resisted an armed robbery at a shoe shop in Nazimabad No 1, police said. Raza, son of Mohammad Ali, offered resistance when three armed men entered the shop within the remit of the Rizvia Society police station. They shot at him and escaped, the police said.

Resident of Gulbahar, the victim was the father of two children and an employee of a private security company.
