Feud claims two lives

LAKKI MARWAT, May 22: Two people were killed over an old enmity in the busiest lorry adda bazaar on Tuesday.

The double murder incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Lakki police station. Police said Gul Nawaz and Abdul Rehman, residents of Surband village, sustained severe bullet injuries when they came under attack by their rivals.

They said that people shifted the wounded men to city hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police said the killers escaped after committing the crime while a hunt was launched to arrest them. However, no arrest was made till the filing of this report.

Police registered a case against the accused Azad Khan, Mumtaz Khan, Jamil Khan, Rehmatullah and Adam Kan. —Correspondent

Man shot dead

KARAK, May 22: A man was shot dead by his rivals here on Tuesday.

Police said the victim, identified as Naseer Khan, was fired upon by his rivals outside the Teri police station, killing him on the sport. A passer-by Mohammad Qasim of Bannu was also injured in the incident.

Saeed Khan, the father of the slain, who was resident of Sarwan Banda Terri, registered FIR against three brothers Khalid Khan, Mohammad Hussain and Ishfaq Ahmad for killing his son.

Meanwhile, a young girl of Bahaderkhel area committed suicide over some domestic problems. The relatives registered FIR in Khuram police station. —Correspondent

Electricity arrears

PESHAWAR, May 22: The Tribal Area Electricity Supply Company (Tesco) has issued notices to various government departments to clear their dues amounting to over Rs816 million by June 30.According to a press release issued here on Tuesday Tesco had over Rs760 million arrears against thirteen major government departments in Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by April 2012.

Tesco has issued notices to these departments for clearance of their dues in time because the financial position of the company is fragile and it cannot bear additional burden of arrears. The company would have no option except to disconnect power supply of these departments if they failed to deposit their dues by the deadline. —Bureau Report

Rally in support of PM

PESHAWAR, May 22: The activists of Peoples’ Youth Organisation (PYO) on Tuesday held a demonstration at Sher Shah Suri Road in support of President Asif Ali Zardar, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto.

The demonstrators were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans.

Khalid Khan, president of PYO, district Peshawar, Niazbeen Khan, Peshawar city president, Nasir Khan, vice president and others were leading the workers.

Talking to reporters, they said they had full trust in the leadership of PPP and Peoples’ Youth Working Committee. Criticising PML-N chief Nawaz Sahrief, they said the former prime minister had left Pakistan and gone to Saudi Arabia where he spent luxurious life at the time when country was in trouble. —Bureau Report

Postal workers hold demo

PESHAWAR, May 22: The employees of various post offices of Peshawar on Tuesday held a protest demonstration at the main Saddar Road demanding solution to their problems. The protest caused inconvenience to the commuters.

The workers, led by the central general secretary of the postal employees association, were holding banners and placards inscribed with demand for cancellation of the recruitment of over 300 junior clerks in the department. They asked for promotion of the employees and provision of jobs quota for the relatives of those got retirement or died.

Taking to media persons, the secretary general of the association said expired medicines were provided to the postal employees in the welfare funds. He demanded inquiry into the matter and punishment to the people involved in the illegal act. —Bureau Report

Vacations’ schedule

PESHAWAR, May 22: The education department has notified the following schedule of vacations for the year 2012-13 for all the government and private colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The summer vacations will be observed from June 15 to Aug 31, winter vacations from Dec 25 to Dec 31 and spring vacation from April 1, 2013 to April 7, 2013.

In hilly/snowy areas, summer vacations will be observed from July 1 to July 31, winter vacations from Dec 25 to Feb 28, 2013 and spring vacations from April 1, 2013 to April 7, 2013. —Bureau Report
