PESHAWAR, May 24: The activists of two student federations, affiliated with different political parties, exchanged fire with each other on the campus of University of Peshawar (UoP) here on Thursday.
The two groups of students fired at each other near STC, a cafeteria at the university, at 11am but luckily no one was injured in the incident, said a press release issued by UoP chief proctor Dr Anwar Alam.
He said that Campus police arrested two of the troublemakers while eight managed to escape. An FIR was registered with the approval of competent authority against both the parties involved in the clash.
He said that 26 outsiders were arrested from the university hostels when police launched a search operation for the arrest of the remaining troublemakers.
The chief proctor, provost, deputy provost, assistant provost, security officer, SHO and police officials took part in the search operation. The outsiders were arrested and the rooms, they were living in, were locked during the operation.
Political material including banners, charts, badges, stamps, megaphones and sticks were also recovered for the hostel rooms, the release said.
It said that formal proceeding under Section 420 was started against the arrested outsiders by the Campus police.
“The University of Peshawar is fully committed to maintain conducive study environment on the campus and take all out measures to prevent factions, dominated by outsiders, from spoiling it,” the release added.
