Aspirants try their luck for a future in different genres of performing arts at the Alhamra Cultural Complex, Lahore — Dawn

LAHORE A frisky talent-hunt evening at Alhamra Cultural Complex was a mega attraction for many amateur singers, who gave their best while singing to a live orchestra on Friday.

Illuminations, young enthusiastic singers, the majestic ambiance of the Cultural Complex covered under an array of multicolour lights and some fabulous music was all about the talent hunt night.

“The Lahore Arts Council in an effort to search for new talent in singing has started organising talent-hunt nights on every Friday,” Khaqan Haider Ghazi, deputy director of Alhamra Cultural Complex, told Dawn.

“After every three months we will organise a mega music gala in which selected voices from Lahore will perform,” he said.

The singers are invited through invitations mailed to colleges and universities. All people from the audience can also sing at these nights.

Asia, a student at Alhamra Performing Art Academy, opened the evening with famous melody ‘Tum Sung Naina Lagay’. To the delight of the audience, a few more light songs were sung by different singers.

A teenage boy thrilled the audience with some fiery break dance to a fast number.

Comedian and singer Yaqoob also sang a few folk pieces besides cracking good humour.

A guitarist played some trendy tunes while focal person on the occasion, music composer Zulfiqar Athray called the evening a beneficial one when it comes to a hunt for fresh singers.

The night turned the complex into a vibrant and thrived place as one could see scores of people enjoying music while sitting on lush green lawns or chairs munching potato chips and sipping soft drinks. Samina Ehsan, college student, said it was her good decision to come to the programme.

“We are having a good time here -- it’s a free of tension occasion,” she said. Otherwise, she said, she would have been watching news channels at home only to hear bad news.

“Such music shows should be held every night,” said Mehreen Hamid, a Punjab University student.

“I am sure such music galas will help promote still unheard singers from Lahore,” Asad Bilal said.
