KARACHI, May 25: A young worker of the Awami National Party was gunned down in Korangi Industrial Area in the early hours of Friday, police said.

They said that armed riders targeted Abdul Shakoor, in his early-30s, in Bilal Colony when he was sitting outside his home in Street 6 of Sector 8-A with some friends.

An official at the Korangi Industrial Area police station said: “Witnesses said two men on a motorbike pulled up near the victim, fired multiple shots and rode away. The victim was a vegetable vendor and worker of the ANP.”

Tension gripped the area in the morning as shops remained closed and vehicular traffic remained off the roads. The situation returned to normality by the second half of the day.

Youth gunned down in Orangi

Another young man was gunned down in Orangi Town on Friday evening.

The area police said that armed riders fired at 20-year-old Ahmed Maqsood when he was having a chat with his friends near his home in Orangi Town Sector 11- 1/2.

“Hit by two bullets, he died on the spot,” said an official at the Pakistan Bazaar police station. “He was not associated with any party but several activists were his very close friends.”

Robbers kill man

A young man was shot dead while resisting a robbery attempt in the Bahadurabad area on Friday.

Police said the 30-year-old victim, Faisal Karim, came to drop his cousin to his home near Jamaluddin Afghani Road when two men on a motorbike intercepted him.

“As told by a witness, they demanded cash and valuables. However, apparently after an altercation one of the bandits fired shots that hit Faisal,” said an official at the New Town police station. “The armed men rode away with his valuables. The wounded was shifted to a private hospital where he died during the treatment.”

The victim was a resident of Garden East and employed with a brokerage house.

The police registered a case (FIR 222/12) under Sections 396 (dacoity with murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown persons on a complaint of the victim’s family member.

Stabbed to death

A petty dispute between the owners of two poultry shops in Sohrab Goth turned deadly when one of them was stabbed to death, police said.

They said the two owners —Imtiaz and Zahid — had their shops in Ayub Goth within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station. The dispute between the two began when one of them lowered his rates.

“They were exchanging hot words when Zahid attacked Imtiaz with a knife,” said a police official. “Imtiaz sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby private clinic, where he died. The police arrested Zahid.”
