Man shoots down two friends

TAXILA, May 26:  A man gunned down his two friends over a petty dispute in Hassanabdal on Saturday.

Police sources said Babar Ali, resident of Irshadnagar, had developed differences with his friends, Jibran Masood and Asif Yousaf.

On Saturday, he went to Miladnagar where Jibran Masood was sitting with other friends near a graveyard and opened fire on him. Jibran died on the spot.

Later, he went to Mohallah Islampura and called Asif Yousaf out of his house. As soon as Asif stepped out, Babar shot him dead. He managed to escape. — Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, May 26: A man committed suicide in the capital’s rural area on Saturday, police said.

S.N.Y., 47, a resident of Golra, slit his neck with a kitchen knife and died on the spot.

The victim had married a college lecturer two years back. He was a labourer by profession and worked in Saudi Arabia. He returned to the country about seven months back and remained jobless.

The police quoted his wife as saying that her husband told her last night that “I am your culprit and have failed to give you your due rights.” She said on Friday evening when her husband started shouting in his room she rushed there and found him holding a knife and bleeding from the neck.

The neighbours also reached the house but the victim died before they could shift him to the hospital. — Staff Reporter

Literary persons protest

ISLAMABAD, May 26: Literary persons hailing from Sindh staged a protest rally in front of National Press Club on Saturday against the proposed division of the province, attack on rally in Karachi and on bus near Qaziabad in which seven persons were killed.

Secretary Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Sarwan Sindhi said some elements have been trying to divide the province which is not acceptable at any cost.

He said violent incidents were part of a conspiracy to divide the province.—A Reporter

Kidnapped girl’s body found

ATTOCK, May 26: Police recovered the body of a five-year-old girl murdered by an alleged kidnapper in Jand.

Police sources said on Saturday that Sidra Qayyum, daughter of Abdul Qayyum, a resident of Mohallah Farooqia, was kidnapped by an unknown person few days ago who demanded ransom for her release.

The matter was reported to the police by the victim’s parents and since then police were investigating the case. Meanwhile, after tracing some clues, the police held a suspect, M.H., a resident of the same locality, who confessed to the crime. He disclosed that he killed the girl as she had identified him.

On his identification, the police team led by the SHO Jand police station recovered the body of the girl from a nullah  on Friday and shifted it to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital for postmortem.

Later on, the body was handed over to the parents. Police have registered a murder-cum-kidnapping case against the alleged killer and further investigation is under way. — Correspondent

Benevolent fund

ATTOCK, May 26: The district police released Rs1.638 million to provide benevolent fund to 37 retired policemen and to award scholarships to eight position holder students, the children of police officials, from the district police welfare fund.

The district headquarters said here on Saturday that six months pending benevolent fund of Rs884,000 had been issued to 37 police officials retired on medical ground  and families of martyred policemen at the ratio of Rs24,000 each.

Similarly, scholarship of Rs754,760 was also given to the eight children of policemen to assist them in their education.

The policemen and their families appreciated the kind gesture of the district police. — Correspondent
