HAMBURG: A buyer in Pakistan has purchased 61,000 tonnes of Australian canola (rapeseed), continuing the recent trend of a switch away from Canadian canola by Pakistani buyers, European traders said on Tuesday.

The purchase was made in the past couple of weeks from a multinational trading house for June shipment, traders said.

The purchase follows a shipment of 55,000 tonnes of Australian canola which sailed for Pakistan in May and 60,000 tonnes of Australian canola bought by Pakistan in April.

“Pakistani buyers purchased about 340,000 tonnes of Canadian canola for shipment between January and March this year but buying has now firmly switched to Australia,” one European trader said.
