LALAMUSA: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Saturday reiterated that unscheduled loadshedding would soon end in the country and for this purpose all available resources are being utilised.

Addressing a big gathering after performing Sui gas supply schemes in Mauza Khawajgan, Shah Jehanian, Azam Nagar and Mauza Thekrian, he said that despite severe opposition by the world powers, the government has inked gas pipeline agreement with Iran while talk on electricity was in progress with Iran also.

Kaira said that realizing the importance of energy in the development of economy, the government is also signing agreements with other countries including India to meet future demand of energy.

He said that equal loadshedding would be resorted to all cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Lalamusa and other cities.

He said that government was committed to address all problems on permanent basis including the ongoing power shortage.

He dispelled the impression of taking electricity from China at the rate of Rs 300 per house and termed it baseless.

He said that the past government did not produce even a single Mega Watt but it was the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government which took the initiative by launching various mega projects of dams to meet the future energy demand of the country, adding that the government has added 350 MW in the national grid system by utilising all available resources.

The minister said that it was credit for the PPP to present fifth consecutive budget which shows people’s confidence on the government.

He said that during last four years, the government has not only provided thousands of jobs to unemployed people but also has increased the salaries of government employees by 150 per cent.

The minister said when the PPP came into power, the country was facing various problems like loadshedding, inflation, shortage of wheat and sugar but the biggest threat was terrorism.

“After overcoming the terrorism the government would also succeed in addressing the other issues” he said.

He said the PPP has always promoted democratic culture in the country but what Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) did in the budget presentation was unfortunate and undemocratic by any standard.
